The Radiance M-Commerce Application is a comprehensive, innovative mobile platform built for online shopping, based specifically on Technological Products. Developed as a single-person effort under the context of Handheld Programming II, it offers a user-friendly, secure, and seamless shopping experience on the Android platform. Its architecture supports a crucial dual-role system where users can act as both customers (buyers) and registered vendors (sellers), enabling a complete mobile commerce ecosystem.

Problem Statement

The primary challenge was designing and developing a robust native Android application that could successfully manage the complexity of a dual-sided marketplace. This required implementing secure and flexible user authentication (supporting both Google account and email/password login), facilitating comprehensive product browsing and search, and creating distinct interfaces for buyers and vendors to manage their respective activities (purchasing vs. product listing and inventory control).

Goals & Objectives

The main goal was to deliver a high-quality, high-performance native Android app. Key objectives included providing a convenient, secure, and seamless shopping experience, enabling customers to browse, find, and buy products, and empowering registered users to sell products by registering as a vendor. This involved integrating advanced Android features like Google Maps (Map and Live Location) and Sensors Controlling to enhance the user experience.

My Role

My role was the sole developer for the entire Radiance M-Commerce Application. This encompassed all phases of development, including UI/UX design, native Android implementation using Java, developing all main functions (registration, product listing, shopping cart), integrating backend services (likely Firebase, inferred from common technologies for this type of app), and incorporating advanced system-level Android features.

Challenge and Solutions

The major technical challenge was the integration of numerous advanced components and features required for a full-scale mobile commerce application, such as implementing Notifications Broadcast Receivers, managing Network Connection states, handling Multitasking, and utilizing Telephony and Multimedia capabilities. The solution involved deep utilization of the native Android SDK, rigorous event handling and animation development, and the effective use of Shared Preferences for efficient local data storage.

Users & Characteristics

Customers (Buyers)Customers are the users who utilize the application primarily to browse and buy technological products. They can register using their Google account or email, search products by category and keyword, view detailed product information and images, add items to their Shopping Cart to complete checkout, manage their Wishlist, view their order history, and modify their account settings.

Vendors (Sellers)Vendors are users who sell goods using the platform after registering specifically as a seller. They are responsible for creating new product listings via the Product Registration interface, maintaining their product listings, controlling their own product price and inventory, and organizing orders and handling payments (implied functionality for order management).

Process of the Project

Requirement Analysis and Specification
Defined the Product Scope and Specifications for the M-Commerce application, detailing all Main Functions and the technical Additional Features required. This included outlining the needs for the dual User Class and Characteristics (Customer and Vendor) for distinct workflows.

Design & UI/UX Development
Focused on UI Designing to create an intuitive and user-friendly interface for both buying and selling processes. Implemented Event Handling and Animations to ensure a seamless and engaging user experience, adhering to the visual standards of modern Android applications.

Native Android Implementation & Feature Integration
Developed the application's core logic using Java within Android Studio. Integrated crucial Android components like Data storage, Network Connection management, Notifications Broadcast Receivers, and advanced features such as Sensors Controlling and Google Map (Map and Live Location) functionality.
